Driving along a road in Leelanau County in the mid-90s, I happened to see these guys looking under this old girl's hood. After taking the photo, we talked for a few minutes. The picture sold, matted, for many years. When I began painting again, I removed my matted photos from the store. I always wanted to do this picture but didn't know if I was up to the car, honestly. When I finally finished it and posted it on Facebook, a friend in the area said she knew whose car it was. That was great, because for fifteen years, I had been looking for that place. I knew I had been driving north, but thought it was M-72. Yet I never found it. Now, she told me who it was, and I called the folks and took the picture over to them on Newman Rd. There was the old yellow garage. Inside was one of the fellows, Duane Newman, and his lovely wife. When I came in, they took me to their living room. Hanging over their TV was the framed matted photograph I had taken twenty years before. Their daughter had seen it at the Secret Garden in Empire and bought it for them. They wondered who I was and never found me. Turns out the other fella in the picture was his next door neighbor. Their daughter is an artist with whom I have worked! Small world. Smaller county. I gave them the painting.
